Annual Member Survey Results
Feb 2006

Thank you for submitting a survey and helping the club move forward and improve in a constructive manner.  Your comments and ideas will help guide the way.  Following are survey responses already received.  They are posted here for all members to read and consider.

How often did you get sailing last year and how often would you like to go sailing this coming season?

46

only a few times last year becasue of personal things. This year I hope to get down to the dock at least once a week.

I sailed about four times.  For 2006, I'd like to sail once a week.

once a week

very often.  At least 3 times a week

1-2 times /week The same frequency would keep me happy this season.

Once outside of the certification class I took.  I would like to go at least a couple times a months in future.

From July on, a lot.  4-6 times a week.  Went on a lot of mentor sails, made skipper in Oct.  This year I plan to sail at least 4 times a week including volunteering as a Fleet Captain a few times a week.

I jsut joined at the end of August, but I went sailing every weekend.  I'm looking forward to sailing all the weekends I am not away.

Twice a week or more.

2 times a week last year

would love to sail more but family comitments may not allow that....

I raced at lease twice a week.
I cruised about 4 of 5 times last season.
I plan to do about the same in the coming season.

2x's/month this year; hopefully 1x's/week next year.

5+ sessions per week last year. same or more this season

Twice a week.  Like to shoot for 3 in 2006.

often - often

104  50 for Mentor & 54 for Fleet Captain and Personal

Didn't go sailing but I managed to run my boat aground!

I raced every Tuesday in the spring, winter and fall series plus free sailing.  This year I intend to do the same plus skippering a Hoboken Boat in the Wednesday night race series.  I also free sail 2 or 3 times per week on top of racing every Tuesday night for all 3 series

Less than 7 times.  Would like to significantly increase to qualify for Skipper priveleges

A few times a week/probably about the same this year

About 1 to 2 times a week. Consistently 2 times a week.

10?

Not at all.

150 hours probably a little less this year

At least once a week last year and hope for the same frequency this year.

Once a week (when i could get a spot).  I'd like to go twice a week this season.

At least once a week

2 or 3 times in 2005.  Weekly in 2006 provided I get a job (unemployed)

once a week at minimum last year - would like to go out more on week nights (sail more...work less)

I did not sail on the J-24's at all.  I have been using my own sailboat, an alerion 28

Friday afternoon and evening, Saturday afternoon and raced, Sunday afternoon and some evenings

About 25 times.  I'd like to do about the same this year.

lots,   plenty,  two times a week

a lot; best year of sailing at the club so far.

5 times but I was just moving back to town.  This year I would hope 2x per week when summer vacation starts (end June).

I sailed in the Wednesday evening series and then quite a bit on the weekends

15-20 times, approximately in 2005. In 2006 probably 10 times, due to my move back to the UK

Twice a week average. I want to go sailing 4 times a week.

Raced every week, would like to get out multiple times a week

15 times last year, 20+ times this year

I only got out about three times, but this year I hope to get out weekly.

I sailed twenty times last year. This year I hope to go atleast 35.

not as often as I wanted.  I won't be, I am being deployed to Iraq

1-2 times a week answers both questions

5x, 20x

On average, a bit less than twice a week. I want to do an average that is a bit higher than twice a week this coming season

I went sailing about 10 times (I joined in August)

6, more

About 3X/week. Mainly racing.

I went at least twice a week and would like to do the same this year.

2-3 times per week

Usually once a week and once on the weekends.  I hope to sail more this year as a skipper

at least once a week, sometimes twice

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, and misc. days during the week.

About 4 to 6 sessions per week for last year. I would like to do the same this year.

What can the club do to help you achieve your sailing goal?

to-go-food on the club house

There should be a specific class that will make me a skipper. The rules are clear enough, and there are mentors and fleet captians, but a class, requiring pre-requisite courses, or equivalent experience or time in the club, would be helpful, and it's something that I and I believe others would be willing to pay for. Also, it would give the club an opporunity to make more skippers, and for potential skippers to learn exactly what they need to work on so that they will become skippers faster.

It's all about me setting priorities, not the club.

more fleet captain sailing

Doing a great job so far

It's entirely up to me.

I joined then had a family emergency whcih kept me away.  Hence i'm not really familiar with how I go about crewing on someone's boat.  Perhaps instructions to semi-new members would be helpful.  Hopefully there are mixers in the winter too that will help me meet people.  Seems a little overwhelming at the moment.

Keep up the mentor and fleet captain program.  Incentives for mentors and Fleet Captians would be great, they give a lot to the club.

Continue to call Skippers when we have a crew, but no Skipper- very nice

I'd like to pass the skipper's test, so it would be helpful to know there are sufficient mentors willing to provide assistance.

keep the boats in good condition

it's my work situation, nothing to do with the club

more child friendly sailboats

Faciliate assigning Skippers earlier than the day off or guaranteeing Skipper placement on your boat.  A few times I showed up, and had no Skipper which was very frustrating.

more info about how to further yourself. i.e., professional quals, courses, how to progress to be an instructor etc.

Charter/purchase crusing boats and organize local long weekend cruising events.  Think Carribbean Regatta but localy over long weekends.  I have been unable to do the Carribbean Regatta due to limited vactaion time and a shorter, more accessible version of these trips would be awesome.

Make it easier for me to skipper boats.

I think it's mostly on me.

Keep the new windward/lewward courses.

nothing

Make becoming a skipper require less of a time commitment on the front end

have opportunity for larger offshore sailing (use the J100?)

Keep the races running on time

make it easier for new members to get on boats on race nights

So far, I don't see any way to improve. It seems great.

offering lectures/training for the memebers... e.g. if you want to learn to be a fore-deck you need to practice and even the Sat regatta is not a good time to learn as it can be at cost of the whole crew ... on a normal sailing day - spinackers will not be used :)

Group people who want to learn more sailing skills as opposed to learn just "racing" skills.
Offer programmes for people who would like to specific skills  as opposed to just cruise ie how to rig the boat for spinnaker pole, learning to sail/trim under spinakker,

have seasonal captain memberships

Make sure all boats are available & in good repair

Would like to have a means of upgrading to larger boats.  I understand that this is really difficult and our last try at doing this ended badly.  That said I think there's room to try this again with greater structure.  I think that the school could play a big part in this.

get a couple of larger boats. devise a system that allows for longer sailing times

More fleet captains.

Allow me to teach Basic Sailing.

Same as last year.  I live 62 miles out of Manhattan and can't come into town on weekends to sail.

The club should be more open to welcoming new members and having forums for getting to know people and becoming involved in activities and/or committees.  I was very disappointed that there seemed very little support in these actions and instead left the feeling that it was an "insider's" type of club only (I know of other new members that felt the same and have encountered totally different experiences with other clubs).  Please don't get me wrong, I think it's a great club and I've met some wonderful people, but I think it's really worth developing these types of activities more and I'd be happy to become involved.

more mentor sailing and fleet captain

keep the saturday races and fleet captain programs going

more fleet captain boats

As much racing as possible

More fleet captains and skippers

Be available and provide regular information on sailing opportunities.

Figure out a way to do a coastal nav overnight to Block Island or Martha's.

Not much

re think the only 1 reservation per skipper or pull more of the jersey boats into North Cove.

everything is great

Greater Access to the 105

Buy me a bigger boat (What's my club dockage discount at North Cove?)

I think the club is doing an awesome job and it is allowing me to achieve my sailing goals!

Assist me with an assigned Mentor under the Mentor program.

There's usually enough opportunity.

Keep up the good work and the ability to sign up on line for boats.

happy as is

The hardest issue for us is timing. Signing up in advance is difficult since we do not know our schedules and we would feel awful about taking the places of others who might be able to sail.

More racing at weekends. Mid-week racing starts too early for me.

Increase the Fleet Captain Program.

Find me a job close to the boats

Expand Fleet captain by giving more incentives to skippers to join program

Send more people down to the BVI's to see what sailing is all about!

I would like to see some activities for members who have their own boats

Make sure there is a boat at the dock when I want to sail and continue to have a fantastic group of mentors so I may work towards my skipper certification.  The Fleet Captain program is essential to the club and I look forward to my continued participation in those sails also for the social sake of the club.  The club would not be complete without a great support crew on the Mermaid and the sunset drink on the dock.

It's doing a great job right now!

Continue the focus on maintenance.  the engines are getting old. They need more maintenance.

keep up the good work

To be frank - don't raise fees!  As a teacher living in Manhattan I give up the major portion of my entertainment budget to be a member.

Continue to support Saturday afternoon Racing. It is briljant! Also, open the clubhouse more often, particularly on Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoons and evenings.

HAVE MORE SAILING TRIPS NOT ONLY ON THE HUDSON, BUT OTHER PARTS, LIKE WEEKENDS TRIPS OR LIVE ABOARDS.

I just need to get involved w/ the mentoring program

nothing (I just need to get down there more often)

Nothing. My problem in sailing is my job.

In the beginning of the season I had signed up, would go down and find out there was no skipper or they cancelled.  It was very disappointing.

Keep the boats sailing.

I would like to have more freedom to use the boats and share my experience with other sailors without having to pay a heavy financial penalty (see below).

It is up to me, the club is already offering everything it can. To achieve the sailing goal (to become a skipper) is only up to me.

It's tough to sail because there are a limited number of captains.  Until I sail more, I won't be ready to be a captain.

Nothing, my job is limiting factor

A dinghy program w/ Lasers/Optis would be a great addition. A junior program would also be great.

Definitely continue the Saturday racing program.

Add something a step up from daysailing; ie. overnight trip on a crusing boat.
Also I would like to see events and races with other yacht clubs.

The club has already done enough.  There are so many knowledgeable members, that I feel it is up to me to meet them and to learn from them.

Make sure the boats are well maintained.

Last year I learned how to sail and got my skipper certification. I feel having the skipper responsibilities will help me grow and gain more experience. I would also, like to learn how to race, so the saturday races will be a place for me this summer. Perhaps if the club offered some learn to race classes, similar to J-world?

If you participated in the Fleet Captain Program, how could this be improved?

develop food pick up for captains

more fleet captain sailing

Regular fleet captain commitments so there are less "Skipper needed" reservations.  Incentives so there will be more Fleet Captain volunteers.

FC program is great.

making sure that crew show up on time and realize that no one is obligated to do this it is something everyone should enjoy.

more fleet captains needed and more incentive for fleet captains to participate. perhaps a reduction in skipper membership dues for participants.

Works well

The infrastructure is top notch.  That is, the web based sign up sheet, etc.  The issue is getting people to use it.  I can't really offer great suggestions though, as I just as often show up with no reservation as have a reservation.

It happened very often, especially on weekends that they just did not find a fleet captain for us. It is hard to see that there are many empty boats, the sun is shining, and you just cannot go sailing... I think it would be very important to work on that...

I should have participated, this is clearly along the lines of what i need to be doing to become a skipper, it was just hard to make it there on time with work

Not yet

There is great dependance on what the captain woudo want to to do... sometimes everybody can practice all skills and sometimes, it is just a leasure cruising experience. Matching what the participants and the skipper wants to do in advance might be helpful.

more sessions about learning  some specific skills
a) rigging the spinnaker
b) working the spinnaker

As a skipper, I like to have at least one experienced crewmember along.

Forgot this in my last survey.  We need to start charging people who do not show up for fleet captain reservations.  Last summer in August we had a full 50% of the people signed up not show on a lovely Saturday afternoon!  Paula will remember the day.  Remarkable but true.  That means that a lot of people who wanted to go sailing couldn't.  Its not fair to them. $5-10 would keep people honest!!

Timing for weekend sails is simply too short!  12-4 time slot needs to be extended to 12-5.  Racers were coming back with much wasted daylight after their sailing session.  This year I had some of the shortest and least enjoyable sails ever. This is one reason why I got my ASA certification to teach.  Frankly, the possibility of sailing longer hours with the school rather than the club is appealing.  I'm doing the same thing with fleet captain as I would do with the school anyway.  Reservation system needs to be revised and I am working with James Sinclair on this.

I am not sure what the incentive should be since I am not a fleet captain but it was hard to get out on the water due to lack of available skippers. Maybe reduced due's if you fleet captain a predetermined number of sails. 10 fleet captain sails equals 10% reduction etc.

I guess when I do fleet captain this will happen.

Unable to sail at the MYC on weekends--location issue.

number of open crew slots required for fleet captain  should go down to 3 so skippers can bring a guest or crew can bring a guest with skipper's permssion without getting 6 people on a boat - also to allow skipper to hand pick their 4th crew member so they don't end up with a boat full of novice or lazy sailors

I haven't

use text messaging to arrange crew/skipper

I think the program is pretty good the way it is.

1) get more skippers involved so there are less 'skipper needed' on the website.  That is bad for morale.  Have stricker repercussions for skippers who are no show/no call for FC sails

Greater Access to the 105

It appeared to work pretty well this year. Seems like there was lots of enthusiasm!

Not much,I guess more fleet captains would help.

works for me

More fleet captains

A great programme - thanks to all the skippers.

It seems that there could be a greater incentive for skippers to participate.  Many said that it was not worth it to them.  Maybe a small credit toward dues per sail?

Emphasize to the captains that everyone should have a chance to drive if they want.

Even if I have a reservation , I can never be certain if I will be on a boat. Therefore, I am less inclined to plan my weekend around the sailing club as I did in the past.  Also miss the opportunity to reserve spots for guests.  This allowed us more social opportunities.  Need to encourage people to stay after sailing to mingle at club house.

It seems to work as well as can be expected.  I didn't really have any problems last year.  I got out on all my scheduled sails.  It was a fantastic summer!

perhaps to emphasize to crew to show up if they sign up and always offer to buy the captain a drink.

It's good.  I realize we need more Captain memberships.

No

I did not participate but hope to do so this year

I wish I could have brought a friend along occassionally.  But as I understood it, I had to know a captain, arrange it with them etc.  I would have happily paid for a friend to go.  Maybe you have ten guests passes a season per person with an appropriate charge associated with it.

more FC's.  We need to encourge the new skippers to become FC's.  However, we can't rush them into it, since they still need to develop some confidence in skippering a boat.

I think it is GREAT. I am 100% behind it and thanking ALL the skippers that show up on the program. May be there could be some special program where there are less people (so you get more tiller time), but I think it already exists: the mentor program, no?

I think it works well.

Provide a signup option at the clubhouse for people who have not made a reservation online. It could simply show the boats and any open spots and allow people to sign up on a first come first serve basis.

Seeing the program from both sides, as a crew member I wanted more tiller time, as a skipper I see how hard it is to give everyone time on the tiller when you have a full boat and 2-3 hours of sailing.  More skippers are needed to participate more often would reduce the number of people on each boat.  Some sort of incentive should be given to skippers each time they captain.

As a skipper for the last few months of last season - I found my crew to always be experienced, interesting and genuinely helpful.  No complaints.  Also, I thought that James Sinclair did a fantastic job running the program.

I participated as crew in the fleet captain program. I was very happy with it.

If you participated in the Racing Program, how could this be improved?

Change the course more often

I tried it a few times.  I'm confused about the right of way rules so information on the web site and novice racer seminars would be helpful.  I am concerned that Saturday racing will take over all of the boats.  I think some of them should be reserved each week for 4PM cruisers.

Did not participate in racing.

did not paricipate

print instructions for the race committee, sometimes when you don't do it often you may forget something important about the sequence or the

good as is - no great ideas - be nice if I won...

I just wanted to comment on how great I think the Saturday Racing program has been.  I have met more new members during the Saturday racing then I have during any other club event.  The format of having the club assigning interested racers at pretty much a random bases has been great for finding new crew for the Tuesday and Wednesday racing, since you can't really determine someone skill level until you have them out on race course.  I hope that we can continue the Saturday racing in the same or nearly the same format as it has developed and I would be happy to support it in any way possible.

more boats on the line

Yes, working well no obvious needs.  Sat. series was a great success.

As a spectator, I really enjoyed watching the races from teh clubhouse.  I would like to participate, but don't really know how to get in.

running well

earlier starts in fall, better course setting

Keep the races running on time

Saturday... thre are weeks when I have reponded on Mon and I could not make it...

create grading: beginner, intermediate, advanced

I do participate, and think it is great.

try to implement a tracking system for the crew members. so the next time they're on a boat, the skipper know what to expect.

the club needs to have its own anemometer/wind/weather station either at the mouth of the cove or at the clubhouse so the local conditions can be measured. when there are north winds none of the weather stations accurately report the strong northern gusts which can be very dangerous because people go out when they shouldn't or go out with the wrong sails up and when there are strong southern winds, robbins reef gets hit a lot harder than the areas further in the harbor where we race and people go out expecting heavy winds with the wrong sails and get little puffs which is really annoying though not very dangerous.

up and down races if possible two races a night

More short course windward-leeward racing. 2-3 races on the longer summer evenings should be possible. More starts, more finishes=more excitement and racing experience

I participated in the saturday program.  Thought it was great.

Invitations to be on Race Conmmittee

Start the races ealier so we have more light to sail in.

Participated in one race.  It was a blast, and the crew was wonderful.  Very patient and supportive.

TJ Shea did a great job as RC chair. When he wasn't around, some RC's were sloppy with the start sequence -- people should pay attention to the job. It still would be nice to find a way to discourage boat-touch fouls without overly penalizing innocent crews.

More boats out on Sat and keep up the shuttles to the Willy Wall.

Saturday racing is fantastic but not for inexperienced sailors. Should require mimium experience otherwise unfair on skippers and other crew.

Make the weather as good as it was in 2005.  Start races 15 min earlier Fall series

Would be good to have rules siminars offered. Could be done by more experienced skippers - and include tactics (why rounding the mark tight is not always a good idea...). If we could film some mark roundings this might be good 'content' to demonstrate how you can make out by playing it safe.

Stephen did an amazing job last year.  I can't wait to race on Saturday nights.  I only hope there is room for me.  That seemed to be the issue last year.  Lots of interested crew, not enough skippers, not enough boats.  I don't know what ratio was out of line at times.

I think it's pretty great the way it's working right now, although it might be interesting to have teams change boats with every race.  All the boats are not equal.

The no touching rule is great.  Ccontinue to have seminars on how tto race with a no touching rule in effect.

Sunday races.

Could there be a "mentor boat"?  A skipper who wouldn't mind losing (sorry :)!) but with whom those wanting to learn about racing could sign up?  Maybe beginning of season distribute spots to interested learners?

We do not do the Fall series due to the limited time between the start and sunset.  We continue to feel the fall series shouls have a 6PM start, in which case we would participate

Yes, I have. We can perhaps have fixed cans/buoys close to the William Wall to facilitate easier racing on Saturdays (without having to drag the buoys on board). More and shorter races will attract more people and teach the participants on true racing.

Though I realize the location of the races may dictate differently, I think that standard sailing rules should be followed.  Fall starts should happen earlier, so we're not fighting sunlight.

random allocation of boats each series or each year

I really enjoyed the racing and was very satisfied by how it was run.

more teams, Continue Saturday racing

I participated, but I don't think it is for me, I am more into cruising and learning sailing skills. What I saw though was great.

A more resources for the Saturday program. New genoas?

Saturday racing was the perfect program - no improvement necessary.

More formal and thorough debriefing after races (maybe even posted on the website by winning skipper and race comittee) This would benefit many crew members.  I Also think protests should be allowed, while the club wants to promote a friendly race environment, protests and then discussion would help members understand and obey the rules.

pretty good.  however, too many down wind starts.  but the short I liked the short several times around courses, but occasionally a longer course is fun, as for example the round governors island race.

The International Yacht Racing and Class rules should be adhered to. With the club rules i.e. no touching, etc... there is too much room for interpretation. I believe it creates more trouble. For instance rule 18.7  "Cost for Repairing Damage - The cost for repairing any damage to the boats caused by a collision shall be split equally by both boats unless the skippers involved agree otherwise." Why wouldn't the infracting skipper pay for the damage? Why should the rule abiding skipper be penalized?

Only raced a couple of times on saturday. I thought it was really good.

What did you think of the new clubhouse?

love it

It's terrific

I liked it.

I only used it once

Nice facility.

LOVED IT!  Went out there several times during the summer.  It's an amazing place to watch the sunset.  Absolutely fantastic.

Love it.  Best bar in Manhattan and wonderful views.  I really enjoyed watching the Tuesday and Wednesday night races as often as I could make them.

I love the new clubhouse, there is no better view in Manhattan.

Wonderful. It's so nice to be able to bring guests.

its great

love it

a great experience that is easily underestimated from afar

I enjoyed the new club house a lot,  however I did not go to as many of the event as I would have liked because of the often crowed and infrequent shuttles to and from the clubhouse during peak times.

very good. excellent addition to the club facilities.

Very impressed, well done!

Very nice. Great view. Hard to get to, I have two or three times given up trying to get there.

Nice place.

I love it just a bit hard to get to.

new launch will be a positive

great!

amazing, perhaps open it more nights and improve the transportation out there so it does not require such a time commitment to just go out there for a drink

like it

Good, but the transport to/from was problematic

Looks great

I like it a lot.

fun,

great!

Fabulous!

only went for one Full moon party..a lot of fun. make more accessible a large shuttle would be better

Love it !

Very impressive.  The facility is comfortable and safe, and offers what may be the best view in NYC.

Really enjoyed it and hope that we can count on a new form of transportation out there

it is great. but i feel that this is difficult to make it profitable.

nice space, lousy beer selection, often runs out of wine, sometimes very complicated to get to and from

I have not yet had the opportunity to take advantage of this

Great

I liked it

Great

A great addition!

I love it. Michael, I love your music during the parties. And you say you allow others to bring their own I-pod music. That's great. It would be nice to be open more than just on the race nights.

the new club house rocks

I think it is currently under utilized but trust there have plans to address that.

love it

Would like to see a product of greater quality

GREAT!!!

It's fantastic and has the best views in Manhattan hands down.

Awesome!  I wish it was open more nights than just race nights.

Great way to enjoy the harbor in a social setting. I wonder if it might be diverting money from other needs though (sails).

Great, especially during the race nights.

never been in it

Nifty

Good stuff

Superb

It is great!

Love it

Has always appeared to support the racing program not the cruising program.

Great place to experience New York. Would be good to add a bar in the lower area to mix things up (different music/mood)

It is a tremendous enhancement to membership value

Going to the Willy Wall was great! Fun social outing!  Beautiful view!

Quite fun.

Love It!!!!

A plus; except the music; really needs work; a bit embarrassing.

Fab - what a view!  I just wish there were some simple cold snacks to purchase (wraps, chips, fruit, etc. - no utensils to wash).

I have the idea of mooring the new clubhouse in North Cove permanently to creat better (immense) visibility for the club and to eliminate the logistics of getting people out to the clubhouse, and then take the race committee plus guests out on the old clubhouse for racing each night.  Then the use of teh WW woudl be so easy for classroom use and for corporate events, and what a view from within North Cove from the bar deck.  I recall teh heineken corporate event when it took just so long to get everyone back to NC.

It is brilliant, although it should be used more.

I LOVE IT.

I like it

excellent - especially as a viewing platform for racing

Excellent!

GREAT!

I love it.  I think the new launch will make it even better.  We need to get a meat smoker out there so we can have pulled pork.

Awesome. The launch is a little slow and wet, but it's worth the trip!

great addition

I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST!!!!!!!!

I loved it.  I have brought a number of friends out there and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Love it!

I went to a private party there.Great fun. The new launch will be an improvement.

Great.

Great! we just need a bigger launch (although club rumor says we have one already)

Unbelieveable.  The views of the sunset and the racing are incredible.  I would hope that this year, there will be more reliable service to the Willy Wall.  Also, I hope the capacity of the launch boat is increased, so I can jump on it last minute...  Last year, I had to plan 2 weeks ahead of time.

good--but the only time i've been on it was doing race committee.

I love it!!! We just need a better way of getting out there. Also, Clubhouse members should have more privelidges than regular guests, i.e. rides to and fro on any vessel going out to it.

The new clubhouse is a great place to watch the races. Although, I kind of think being charged to get out there, then paying more for drinks is annoying. Getting out there, should be included in dues for members.

How can the club help you meet more of your fellow members?

get a hot tub

there are lots of great social activities and things that make this easy now. It's one of the real strong points of the club.

The club is doing a fine job with meetings and mixers. A nautical scavenger where folks need to travel through manhattan and switch teams a few times could be a way to meet new folks.

Sort out the "over sixties" and, perhaps, have a get-together.

Again, I'm coming in to this a little late in the game, but hopefully there are mixers starting here soon that are somewhat geared towards new members - to help them meet new people.

More parties, encourage more mingling between racers and cruisers.  I find most people I have met over the winter have been racers, I knew the names but not the faces.

The social events help meet more members overall and sailing together is a really nice way to build friendships.

I have met lots of people, I think there are plenty of opportunities to meet fellow members.

too many new faces it is difficult to find time for it

Maybe putting more emphasis on introductions?!

more social events / mixers

This is working well for me.

Provide online interaction, perhaps through a discussion group.

Not sure I have a good suggestion for this.

I think you are doing a lot anyway.

More parties or have a 'standing' happy hour like third Thur of the month.   When it's warm, do it outside at the club house (& possible BBQ), when it's cold, choose a bar.

Perhaps a race that required teams to change team members

More events, or more advance notice of the events

You are doing a lot already

Noticeboard with pictures, contact details and bios of fleet captains, mentors etc

more education, or slide shows from peoples trips, guest speakers

Sail more!

I think things are great, but to meet MORE members have MORE events.

Not sure.

I think the popularity of the new club house will increase member familiarity.

Offering committees or teams to become involved in various activities and holding more events throughout the season.

more events even id it is already loaded(sonia .......it's your call) ....

have a new member dock party a few times a year instead of just once a season

not sure

Free-Beer parties

The club does a good job with this already.

Don't know how many more social events we can practically add!

Fine the way it is. Maybe educational seminars during the season.

MYC dating service "Hello Sailor"

I think there are many opportunities.  Members need to be proactive and take initiative.  Would like to see club consider offering discounts to sailing school for members. Even if it was 10% it would likely improve loyalty, and feeling of exclusivity.

The parties & events seem to mix it up well. Sonya has done a great job with the social program!

I think the full moon parties are great.

not an issue

More social activities.

social events

Seem to be two distincy crows - mid-week racers and weekend sailors. Being one of the latter, never seem to meet any of the former.

More events?

How aboutgoing back to those black tie nights from years ago?

This has become a problem the last few years.  The Saturday racing series took away from the pool of skippers for the Fleet Captain.  Also, recent marriages and children have cut into old skipper line-up.  Unfortunately, these were very socialable people.  There is very little mingling of the racing and cruising members.  I try to attend drinks after races but find it hard to break into conversation of existing teams

Gatherings in the off season are a good way to keep in touch.

The club really does a great job of get togethers around sailing.  This one is really up to members such as myself to make myself more available.

I met so many last summer.  Many are dear friends now!  I don't need too much help meeting members because I seem to be on the docks an ample amount of the season and weekends are a busy time for socializing.

It does a pretty good job right now.

the party schedule is perfect.

keep up the usual events.

Perhaps something like progressive dinners in the off season.  Small groups in people's (small!) apts.  Keep costs down per person but change the location/mix of people for each course.  Might sound corny but activities like ice skating or bowling?  Got any contacts for deals with Chelsea Piers?

Annual cookout on the docks.

Through the new Clubhouse by improving the opening hours.

nothing

the programs are in place (fleet captain and social events) - it is up to me and other members to take advantage of them

Good question.  I really don't know, but I would like to.

Keep everything going.

I think the club already does an admirable job of creating social opportunities.

more club sponsored non-sailing events

Isn't it up to me to meet more fellow members?????

I would love to meet more people and the club makes that possible through its current offerings.  It's my lack of follow through holding me back

More parties.

I have met so many remembering everyones name is the hard part.  Good job on social events.

You are already doing a great job - and Sonya should be commended.

Have more social events at the club itself, and have veteran members be hosts and introduce new members ceremoniously.

I think you do a great job at that alraedy thru fleet captain, racing and the various events.

What do you like most about the club?

1. sailing....   2. diversity of club members

I am slightly intimidated by the process of becoming a skipper and although there are processes in place to make this easier I think that the lack of a specific structure around the process makes it more difficult for me to get motivated. There is only the vague goal of becoming a skipper to strive for, but not specific steps with measurements of progress that are available. I feel like I have to risk wasting the  time of an experienced skipper to go out and get approved but I'm not sure of my strengths and weaknesses. I would be much happier, and more active, if there was more structure around this aspect of the club.

The water, the boats and the people.

a great place to sail

The friendliness and ease of use of the boats

It's downstairs!!!

Opportunity to sail in NY Harbor!  Doesn't get any better than that.

The boats, the sailing, the location!  I think it is great to be able to sail several times a week on club boats without the expense and work of owning my own boat.

The people are very warm and welcoming.

Sailing with friends.

frienship and convenience of the location.

it is all about sailing

ease of sailing, other members have good attitude on the whole, racing programs, location.

Sailing in NY harbor.

Location.

Good location, nice folks.

Its friendly, nice, relaxed atmosphere; the fact that it is all about making friends and sailing (and not about prestige and yachting)

Racing.

access to water and a sense of community.  Continuously improveing and growing

Clubhouse/location/people

sailing in NY harbor

It's a great time. Good people. Fun atmosphere. And the Wall is the coolest thing I've ever seen. The parties are a great time.

the people and the opportunity to hang out with diverse similar minded people while doing something you really like

friendly atmosphere, generosity of fleet captains and mentors

laid back atmosphere

Sailing when I wish to

Sailing and friendship.

it has made sailing accessible,I like the people and being involved in something outside of work

Sailing and improving my skills !

The location, the people, Michael

The ability to sail (race) in Manhattan for a very reasonable cost (I understand the huge cost in boat maintainence)

Michael Fortenbaugh and Stephen Yip.  These are two people that have been so welcoming and really take an interest.

the atmosphere, the people, the programs, the location, ..... everything is fact.

sailing!

I think the club is great

It's a sailing club!

Great economical way to learn sailing and meet other people interested in sailing.

That it is local

The ease with which one can get out on the water.

Sailing. The new club house. Mostly nice members!

the new clubhouse and racing

Sailing, the leadership and that the focus the club has on improving knowlege, skill and excellence for all members

sailing

Sailing

Your energy

I love the ability to reserve a boat and go sailing on the Hudson basically whenever I want.  Aside from having my own boat, it's about as good as it gets.  I also love the racing and the camaraderie in the club.  It's just a great club filled with really cool people that love sailing!

People and unique New York experience.

Sharing a great activity with good friends

The new clubhouse and the racing.

sailing

This is a unique and fun club in stressful Manhattan.

good people

Best sailing club I've ever joined.

The sailing, and the use of the floating clubhouse.

The many friends that I have made

Its proximity to my apartment.

It's the people that make the club. The common interest is sailing - but I do it because of the people.

This club carries the mantle for recreational sailing for New York City

The members!  I love sailing, so the chance to get out on the water , to learn and perfect my skills.
The kindness and open feel that is extended to everyone.

Great racing.  Great calendar of events.  Great staff.

Lots of working boats available when i need them!!!

emphasis on getting people out on the water.

The flexibility of Fleet Cap sailing.

Participants

The J24 facilities. Racing in NY is unique.

I can  learn to do what i like being around wonderful people.

The racing and camaraderie

informal atmosphere

The other members

It is a very friendly atmosphere.  I like the winter activities to keep us in touch with the club members.  I like that boating safety is stressed, unlike the last club to which I belonged.

the sailing.  getting to know everyone

The sailing.

Racing

The sailing, and the new Willy Wall clubhouse

I like the social, laid back atmosphere along with, of course, the sailing.

Sailing

The accessibility of sailing in New York Harbor.

The combination of sailing and social aspects in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Sailing, cruising, racing, having availible crew to go out almost anytime

The quality of the staff and the boats.  Oh, and the members are a lot of fun.

most everything

The fact that at anytime, I can come down and take a boat out and sail in NYC, the greatest harbor in the world!

The people and the escape the sailing provides.

What do you dislike most about the club?

there's no hot tub

There is a bit less structure and organization than I would like. Now, it could probably be said that that is one of the more endearing and attractive aspects of the club in a place like NYC where so much of our lives is over managed, but a bit more structure for certain activities like the skipper approval process would be helpful

Honestly, the ride out to the clubhouse can be a little wet.  I've oftened seen folks hundle on the leeward side of the boat and I start to think about weight distribution and safety.

Sometimes it seemed like some corporate event would trump the Fleet captain sail, and cancel FC for that night. Maybe leave 2 boats for the FC program even if there is a corporate event that night.

Have not gone enough to have any negative comments.  I would like to take a refresher course next year since I didn't get to practice any of my skills.  That would be a good thing to add (if there is not one already).

Nothing major.  It would be nice to have crusing boats available that could be taken beyond the limits on New York harbor.

Nothing.

favortisim

knowing that i don't have enough time to be on the water.

the fact that I work in midtown and live in NJ

In frequency of the shuttle boat, and not enough time slots for the popular times to go out/in.

nothing comes to mind

No sailing in the winter...

The inability to go out sailing when I want, with my non-member friends.

That the fleet captain program is not working as it should. For members who for a lack of time cannot sozialize in the club as much as they would like to, it is diificult to go out sailing many times

no dislikes

boat conditions

Each team seems to be a little isolated from each other

not getting on a boat on race nights

Seems like there are 2 clubs- the serious racers and the weekenders. Shame the two dont mix much!

winter blues

Some new members are less interested in sailing than socialising, particularly on Fleet Captain sails

Short sails with small distances covered.  See my solution under "what else is on your mind section"

If you ask what would I like to see different, I would like to be able to have a boat that we could take for extended trips.

That we can't sail at night in the harbor.

My only issue with the club I've moved far away and I don't sail there as much as I used to--I can't help but make comparisons.

I got the feeling that most existing members don't seem very open to meeting new people -  Seemed hard to get to know people

tough to become a skipper .....

1. the use of inaccurate wind information.
2. the fact that the club does not recycle.
3. the bad beer selection and the fact that there is hardly ever any wine.

there is nothing about the club I dislike

Saison starts too late

Too much depends on the Commodore. I would like to see more of a club structure with delegation to the flag officers and others to make things happen.

5 (or even 6) people on a J-24 can get a bit crowded

no Anchor Steam beer

not enough boats to fit needs. (esp to balance cruising/racing conflicts). The website makes us look more ameture then we are and makes the registration process for boats and FC sails more complicated.

arrogant bankers

Politics

I think the engines could be upgraded by 2-4hp.  When you sail out of Hoboken all of the time like I do, you would like a little more horespower to get you out and back.

Sometimes tough to get on boats.  I think the web site should be a secured access (members only).  This would make it more exclusive and personal.

Management sometimes seems unapproachable if customers have a concern that they want to voice.

We could use new sails.

Not being able to take advantage of the club fully.

no shows

Nothing in particular but better beer selection in the bar would be welcomed!

How quickly Fleet Captain spots fill up.  Last summer it seemed like every time I signed up there weren't enough skippers, and I would have to leave work early to rush down to the docks to vie for a space.  It was stressful.  sometimes I would sign up a week in advance, and still not be put on a boat with a skipper

No longer feels sociable despite the addition of social chair and new club house.

Not alot on my list on this one.

I can't think of anything.

Trying to get my weekend lined-up so I know I am able to sail as much as I want to.  BUT it is also the fun of it, too.  The Monday task of getting your name on the reservation page.

As a gay man, I don't feel very welcome to bring my partner to events.  It's a fairly straight, clubby atmosphere.  Not that that's too surprising.

Can't control the weather.  The Waves from the ferries!!! The club is great!!!

lack of a cruising boat, or other bigger boats to use.

I realize we need more Captain memberships and members should always have first dibs to get on a boat but it would be nice to be able to bring an occasional guest.  Perhaps a few guest "passes" per year.  Also, some way to bring a guest who would like to try it out first before joining.  One of my colleagues at school would like to try it out.

Very little, but if I should say anything, perhaps the J24 material on board is getting a bit rusty/old. Perhaps upgrading some of the blocks etc. may help avoiding breakage.

Sometimes i dont get  a place to sail.

cost and structure of hosting private parties...too sloppy and lackadaisical

nothing really

I dislike nothing

Lack of captains.  You never know if you're going to get to sail for sure.

no pulled pork on the weekends.

I think the club is amazing. My only complaint is the cost to become a full-fledged skipper (again, see below).

I don't dislike anything about it.

I didn't like how hard it was at times to get a boat.

Nothing

Lack of youth/family focus. Perhaps that will change as members mature.

The offseason, maybe we could start a bit earlier and end the season a little later.

Nothing comes to mind

not sure

politics

Not always enough boats.

Do you feel the club is better or worse now than it was a year ago and why?

I can't answer as it's my first year.

About the same.

better.  I am more comfortable

Not applicable to me.  Clubhouse seems to be a great addition.

Better, the Willy Wall is a great addition and mother nature blessed us with some great August/September weather.

The clubhouse is a nice addition.

its hard with so many members

better

only been a member for 1 year.

Better.  Sat racing, Willie Wall and stronger North Cove involvement.  Well done, it was a very successful year.

Better

Better. N. Cove set up and club house has improved things.

better

better

Better

Better and better every year!

a lot of new members sometime makes me feel like I don't know anyone and they don't know me...but I think in total it is better

The club is just fine. Great place.

Significantly better because of the addition of the new club house.

nope, better. why ?? just because i sailed more ....

better in some ways: there is often more wine and the clubhouse is awesome, but a year ago the club recycled and it no longer does that which is a bummer.

I have not used it enough or participated enough to see a difference

Better

No basis to say. I joined late last season.

About the same, although the managing the harbor now makes the club feel less local.

Better. Management of North Cove has been a huge plus. The club is more and more in the national and international racing spotlight.

About the same. I love it.

better due to the addition of the clubhouse

Haven't been around long enough to know but the lease on North Cove will be a great benefit long term.

much better - saturday racing is great

Yes & No. As the personal leader of the club, I feel that you are stretched too thin to persoanlly monitor every activity. I do appluad your release of certaain aspects over the past two years, but think we could all gain through greater distribution of responsibilities.

Every year it get's better and better

Better because we now have the floating clubhouse.  But worse because we had 3 boats in Hoboken during 2004 and 2 in 2005.  It would be wonderful if we could get a 3rd boat back as we now have more sailors and classes in Hoboken than ever before in the club's history.

Can't comment.  I was not a member a year ago.

About the same -- always a good place to hang out with nice people.

Better, the events at the new clubhouse are great.

Better. We really enjoy "This Week In Sailing".

Club house has been a great success.

It seemed more crowded this past year.

Different, better.  I like the international aspects of the club now with North Cove

The same issues exist

Club is better than a year ago. Clubhouse adds allot to the social mix. Good way to bring in non-members to the experience even if they do not sail

I don't know.  I joined last May.

I'm too new to tell.  I've really enjoyed the club and the racing.

Better.  The membership has gotten more vibrant and the new clubhouse and other programs are feeding the fun!!!

better; the new clubhouse a huge addition.

Better

It is constantly improving. Well done everyone!

better because more activities, programs and members

I think it is better. There is a great spirit and lots of enthusiasm.

I've only been a member for less than a year........I cannot say.

better.  More members, who can bring in new strenghts

I only have a year's experience, so I can't comment.

It has improved every year since I joined.

Better, thanks to the Willy Wall.

Saturday racing, North Cove Mgmnt, Winter seminars, more use of the clubhouse---all have contributed.

Better because of the structured Saturday racing program.

Just joined begining of last year, seems to be better.

Better - the Willy Wall was everything that was promised!

better

Better

Only been here a year.

How do you feel about our current fleet of boats?

fine

Great boats for what we do. It would be interesting if we could vary the fleet over time to include perhaps some smaller racing boats like lazers and possibly larger boats like 33' Beneteau's that maight even be available for club use for extended periods like weekends.

The boats are in good condition.

OK

I am happy with them

They're fine, altho several of them were ready for some work.

They are beautiful.

I like the J24's except that they get crowded fast, not the best for cruising types.  Overall, the staff is amazing at keeping them going and I hear we are going to have more in North Cove this year. Yea!

It would be great to have a few larger boats.

They seem to be showing their age. It would be nice to have a J105.

one or two big boats would be nice.

very good

could do with more boats and need new sails.

A couple of cruisers would be a nice addition to the fleet, otherwise fine.

I like the J/24s, they are fine boats. They could do with new life jackets.

very good condition

Extremely well maintained for all the work they get. We need new sails.

boats are fine - new sails are needed

Adequate

need better tuning / maintainence

some could do with a little better maintenance

Nice, but we could use more boats racing during the season

I like it.

wish there were  2/3 larger boats for more weekend offshore sailing

good, need some repairs

Fins as long as they are maintained well.  Motors & sails need replacing.

Great shape but time is ticking, am thinking that we will need to invest in a fleet of J-80s sometime in the next 5-7 years.  Access to larger boats would be nice.

mostly good, some boats need more fixing up (soggy floor boards, old engines, halyards getting stuck

Seems fine

Would like to be able to skipper the J105s that are hanging around. And the J24s need soem work.

I think the club boats are great--especially in the light of the fact that they are used by so many people.

too small. you need more boats in north cove

all the boatds need new sails and the jersey boats are horribly maintained, are in terrible shape and are unpleasant and unsafe to sail on.

getting a bit "used"

I love one design fleets. Therefore I think it is great

I like the J24s.

Okay but could probably be modernized a little.

They're a bit long in the tooth, but still dependable. The sails are another story!

I'm not a big fan of J-24's. I like a bit more cabin.

would love to have lasers or something like that available

Overall fine.  Could be better but fine. PLEASE NOTE I was particually surprised and worried that when boats were lauched last year the wood toe rails were not varished. I would suggest adding that into our spring work seession or something.

A1

Last year the motor maintenance program was a failure. We had continuing and greater problems throughout the year.

Aging but practical

Good.  I think all of the boats need a little TLC, but that's just all boats.  In Hoboken, Dan Crabbe, Scott Lawless and I try to maintain our boats personally and I think it shows, but we still could use a little more of the club's help.

I think they meet the needs of the club members.

The boats are doing OK. But the sails and some of the outboard motors are really falling apart. But maintenance staff was very responsive with repair requests -- great job!

Not bad. Could use new sails.

I am okay as long as they continue to be maintained

Very nice.

they do the job

Some of them are a bit tired, especially state of halyards and blocks. In-season maintenance could be better.

They seem fine, the bench seats are really uncomfortable though.

Good

Good

Boats work - primarily because they are all in the same condition. Keep the hulls the same...get some new sails

As an unscientific observation, I think a few of the boats look tired.

We seem to need new sails.  It would certainly be nice to get that taken care of and anything else so the fleet is ready for an awesome 2006 season.

They're very impressive, although in terms of racing they do seem to be uneven.  I know the club does a herculean job of maintaining them, and it's nearly impossible to keep every boat exactly the same as the other.  That's why I suggest rotating boats for the racing.  It would make things feel more even.

Its great.  I personally would like use of the j105 so i can take out larger groups.

J-24s are perfect for NY harbor.

OK.  Any chance of getting more slips/boats?

Fine - but time for new outboards.

Some need some 'upgrading'...

SO FAR SO GOOD,BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE MORE, BIGGER BOATS.

Sailboats are great, Li'l Toot needs to go

they are getting tired and may not be up to the increased level of usage that comes with expanded membership.  I believe the club needs a capital plan to update the fleet and to implement the plan over time.  The J24 has been a wonderful boat, but there are probably better boats for the club available now (e.g., Ultimate 24,J80, Colgate 26, Sonar, Caribbean J24 (a J24 with redesigned modern cockpit and controls) - I'm sure there are others)

I like them, but last year some of them were showing a bit of wear. Also, the cockpits are a bit small, but that's a J24.

Great.

They are a lot of fun and work well in the Harbor.  We should run some type of clinic on operating the engines.  I heard we are adding five more to the club fleet, that will be sweet!

Some are a little beaten up, but I have no real complaints.

I think it is great. May be we need some bigger boats???? There is one, the J105, but it is not clear to me when it is sailing and who has access to it.

I think they are fine.  I kind of wish they had radios for music, but other than that, they're well kept given their amount of use.

Great, but in need of some maintanance

New genoas would be nice.

Satisfactory.

Overall good.  Some need some interior work ie. floor boards are broken.  A few engines are not in top shape.  Sails are getting old.  We could use a cruising boat for those overnight sails.

Excellent condition, always clean.

stressed out.  they are in incredible condition considering the work out the boats receive.  but as they get older they will require more and more attention to keep them together.  all in all i think the staff did an excellent job last year.

They are in good shape but I wish they were better maintained during the sailing season, i.e. lights functioning, batteries charged, cleaner bottoms, better sails, etc...

I think we need to expand the fleet to incldue additional types of boats. For example, the J105, a beautiful boat, collects dusts most of the summer. This should be sailed by the club members and/or other boats.

What else is on your mind?

food...  hot tub...  I've got a mental block

Keep up the good work and we'll keep sailing!

Next season

Nothing!  Looking forward to participating more this coming summer.

I think we have a great group of members and leaders in this club that make it truly special and unique.  Thanks to all, especially Michael and his dedicated staff.

I enjoy the club and can't wait to go sailing again soon.

great job!!!

I always said that it was a sailing and drinking club, now with the new clubhouse I am right.

this is the wrong time of year to ask these questions - not thinking about sailing now...
More information on access to the NJ boats. not sure how to get on them..

I have always felt the club has done all it could to make sailing in the New York bay as enjoyable and as economical as possible for its members, so much so that I think this in the first time I have bothered to filled out one of these surveys.  My primary reason for participating this time was to comment on how much I have enjoyed the Saturday racing.
Thank you.

A few of the staff that managed Skipper assignment, and tug boat were really professional, understanding, and do an excellent job.

larger selection of alcohol at the clubhouse would be nice.

I'd like to give sailing lessons as a gift to my girl and a couple of close friends, but tuition is kinda pricy for my current budget.  How about 1 or 2 per year per Member deep discounts on unfilled class slots (would be otherwise wasted?)  My guess is that this could really help grow Membership if the friends fell in love with sailing.

Wednesday versus Tuesday fleet could be fun.

the beginning of racing season

I'd like to see a post-race review, for education and debate

I'd really like to get out on race nights, but you knew that.

Had a lot of fun last year! Thanks !

More trips, smaller groups ie like BVI,Grenadines, Greek Islands, Thailand but at non for profit cost. More sailing skills holidays too!

summer dock partys

I volunteer to restart the "cruising program" to allow some members to sail longer distances.  Sandy hook and Ambrose would be great destinations that can easily be covered on a nice Sunday.  I know that there is interest in the program.  Last year I found that many cruisers sought me out since I make for the Verazanno on a regular basis I floated the idea and many liked it.  I know that Ted and Rowe Sheffe are other captains who would participate.  We had a "cruising program" years ago and I think there is a gap in our sailing program that this would fill nicely.  I volunteer!

I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.

The Nav Rules; and knots; and . . .

How about getting a "Big Toot" and addition to the Lil Toot???  Those times I went out to the club house, there have been lines. I assume that will become more of an issue as the club house becomes  more and more popular.

Look forward to becoming more involved in the upcoming season and events!

thank you for being there.

it would be cool if the club interacted a bit with some of the river conservation/outreach groups that sail like rocking the boat or clearwater

My dream would be to sail a trapz skiff in New York Harbour

An invitational regatta over a long weekend offering use of club boats in exchange for buying new sails should work. The cost of transporting a J-24 would be similar to that of a new set of sails.

Please don't raise the fees. Keep up the good work.

Bring back Anchor Steam!
and how about seltzer?

Name tags for the staff will be helpful.

breakfast

I would like to offer club members free use of my mooring in Great Kills Harbor number and GPS Coord's to come

Why can't we put the boats in the water in February, I want to go sailing!?
Michael-Thank You for an Incredible Club!  If it wasn't for your amazing vision and hard work, I would still be sitting on the shore pouting-

I want to improve my sailing skills and move up to Skipper as quickly as the club feels I meet the appropriate criteria.  I appreciate the focus on safety, but hope there is an equal interest and commitment in mentoring members who are motivated to move up.

The club staff is great--big thanks. How about dock boxes to store spinnakers? It would make for good seating too!

1. I would like to get our member IDs earlier in the season, for both of us.
2. A better club directory.
3. A better way for sailors to connect with Fleet Captains.

Two Caribbean regattas were very close together. No good if you're busy at work in January. Saturday racing is a great experience and Stephen Yip has done a great job.

I thought there were too many corporate or non-club regatttas last summer on nights that the fleet is usually available for cruising.

Would be nice to see the clubhouse doners names put up permanantly somewhere on the clubhouse.

Looking forward to Spring and being out on the water.  Everytime the weather hits 50 degrees, I go into sailing withdrawal.

I am sorry to say that I will be unable to attend the spring cleaning in Jersey.  I was so looking forward to lending a helping hand but will be in San Diego March 26 - April 2nd...Sailing.  I am so sorry.  I will help any other way, just let me know.

Like I say, I'm very happy I joined.  I look forward to more great sailing and racing.  I look forward to the club becoming more  inclusive of the lifestyles of its gay members.

I love the MSC!!!  For some reason i see maintenance as being a little harder to get our arms around this year.

the commodore is a visionary.

Might be nice to host a safety at sea seminar - but geared towards NY harbor sailing.  Focus on safety for casual sailing seems too loose.

Perhaps a new club house in the North Cove itself one day...???

I WANT TO BE  PART OF THE MENTOR PROGRAM  THIS YEAR.

Looking forward to the summer.

Thank you for all of your hard work on behalf of the club and sailing in NY Harbor.

Nothing  :)

we're doing good.

I've only been here a year, and you've probably heard this before, but I think there is a disconnect somewhere in the skipper program. These are the people who you depend on to build the club, and yet they pay twice as much in dues. Obviously there is value in being able to take a boat out when you want - I freely admit that I would like to be able to do that. But there should be a way to recognize skippers who contribute to the club's growth and other people's knowledge so they don't get hit with a double burden. Of course some skippers probably don't participate much - fine - maybe there could be a credit system of some sort? Just a thought...

If the club wanted to launch a subscription to buy a big boat, I would sign on.
Just an idea.

Great regatta!

Relationship with the Sailing School is great. Enjoyed Coastal Navigation this winter. Looking forward to dinghy sailing.

Thanks for everything, I'm looking forward to the start of the sailing season!

actually, it's underfoot, too much slush in the city.  bring on the summer.

I think one cool thing the club could do is provide other opportunities to sail. Such as overnite trips from NYC on the weekends to Newport, Block Island, etc. If we had a couple of bigger boats where members could take these trips, it would be great!
