How often
did you get sailing last year and how often would you like to go sailing in
2004?
25 times in '04, 30 times in '05
3 to 4 times a week would like to do the same this week
Maybe 6 times this past season. I like to at least two times a week
25-30 races Tue + Wed, 4-5 weekend cruises; might cut back racing a bit, would
like to get out more on weekends
2-4 times a week
I joined in August and sailed at least twice a week for the rest of the
season
6 times last year (travel and moving house prevented me getting out more
often). This year I hope to get out 3 or 4 times a month.
Last part of the season only, once or twice a week
Two of Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Most weekday evenings when in town and not
working late. Intend same this coming year.
I went most weeks, some more than others. It was an unusually good summer.
0/ 20
once a week
8 last year probably the same amount next year
25 times or so, mainly due to the Saturday afternoon races
I sailed approx. 10 times since I joined in June. I expect sailing once every
2 week end. I will try to sail during the week from time to time. In total
probably around 20 times.
almost every Wednesday and some weekends last year and would like to do the
same this year
Lots. Lots
I think I may have gone about 5 times - I would have gone more often but
something personal came up that interfered. I'd like to go on a more regular
basis this season
Nearly every weekend from June -would like to go at least once a weekend
As much as I could, 3 - 4 times per week. Good
at least once a week to race and sometimes more often. i like to go out at
least 2 times each week, once to race and once otherwise.
Racing almost every Tuesday and occasionally otherwise. I would like to sail
more
once a week - last year
1.5 times this year
I sailed a total of 79 days in 2004, 50 of which were with the club. 22
races, 18 lessons, and 10 pleasure cruises. I would like to sail more days this
year.
went almost every Sunday, would like to go every Sunday
May-Oct. nearly every evening and weekends
about once a week racing but occ once more. would like to do one race and on
to two pleasure sail.
Last year, 3 times
Next year, hopefully 24+ (at least once/wk)
i joined the club in august to race the Tuesday series with Sovereign Seas. I
got out twice aside from the fall series. I intend to win the Tuesday series in
the coming summers. I am also trying to encourage a few friends more skilled
than I to join and skipper. Hopefully this will produce a Wednesday campaign as
well.
Every week I was in NY. (Race on WED) and participated in SAT program - more
next year!
12 last season. would like to 30 times
Not often
10 times w/club 25 next summer
1-2 times a week, same this year if not more
0 to 3 times per week, based on my schedule. I'd like to sail more
regularly.
~ 6 times last year
Once a week this year
2-3 times a week, same again next year
Summer 2004: two weekends (both basic sailing instructions), Summer 2005:
hopefully at least 2 times a month
Sailed every other weekend, would sail every weekend if possible.
1 to 3 times. I hope to sail more often this coming season.
25 last year 50 next year
every week-end at least once
4 last year, more this year
4 times. I regret not going more often. would like 2-3 times a month in key
summer months.
not very often
a lot more
sailed as often as I could, which was a lot in the beginning of the season,
but as the season wore on, I didn't get out as often as I'd have liked due to
other commitments.
I WOULD LIKE TO GO TWICE A WEEK BUT THAT DID NOT HAPPEN-MOSTLY DUE TO WEATHER
& THE TIME THE BOATS LEAVE- IT IS HARD TO GET TO THE DOCKS BY 6 SOMETIMES. I
WOULD LIKE TO GO 1 OR 2 TIMES A WEEK
Many
2 time a month
4 times a month
I went sailing 15+ times last year. I would like to go about 20 or 25+ this
year.
5 times this year, every week next
Twice a week for the two and a half month I was member
Will try to do same, or at least once a week this year.
7 maybe last year, this year will be 20
65 races last year; 80 this year
1-2 times a week
Not often enough. I'd like to sail every Friday afternoon this summer, as I
get half day Fridays.
What can
the club do to help you achieve your sailing goal?
No major changes needed
sailing with the club is amazing. wish on a star: to have some large boats
like the j105.
Mostly this has to do with my schedule. I always found availability to be
good.
it would be very helpful if there was some sort of storage, like lockers,
near the dock so we wouldn't have to lug huge bags of gear every day
It would be helpful if at the beginning of the season there was an
information session for those that are interested in becoming a skipper during
the season.
Fleet captain program is good. But I'd hoped to go out racing this year, and
only got on a boat the very last day, so more help in getting members into crews
would be great.
Offer more structured mentoring for getting skipper privileges
Allow three Fleet Captain reservations for skippers on the books. Always
enjoy taking people out.
More corporate regattas
Less focus on racing and more focus on cruising. New clubhouse and many
social functions (such as annual dinner) are focused on racing constituents.
continue Saturday racing, I like the idea of the lectures this winter and
hope to attend
it is just fine
Continue Saturday afternoon Races, perfect! Perhaps we can do some more races
on one day?
First of all keep enough boats for those who do not want to race during the
week end. I would love to have a spinnaker clinic
Offer more advanced racing courses
Keep on keeping on.
not sure - it's more on my end. although, I would love to see a refresher
offered at no additional cost and with limited people aboard.
Provide a list of skippers that are willing to go out prior to the weekend
Sponsor my Two handed Round Britain & Ireland Race entry? (2006)
I think the ball is in my court.
It's up to me
continue to support sat. racing
Let me sail the J-80.
make sure have sufficient boats available
offer a Intro to Racing course
cont to improve fleet captain program
Continue races twice a week.
Introduce longer day sailing (full day, to specific location and back).
a day on the J105 might help.
nothing
Have more interactive booking and "last minute" activities. We have to fit
sailing in (shocking, I know!) and it would be great if there was an interactive
board on the site or notifications that could be eblasted out that could let us
know when Fleet Captain opportunities, for crew, pop up.
Offer more training in racing, spinnaker.
Keep boats available for members
Nothing - it had more to do with my work schedule.
Offer navigation courses
My goal is to continue with my ASA qualifications. The School does not teach
classes to the level that I need. (I don't expect it to). But it would be good
if we got an affiliation with a school in Annapolis or Newport RI, that teaches
more advanced levels.
Continue with the fleet captain program ,so as a crew member I can learn on
the weekends.
Offer weekend workshops for people who have passed Basic Sailing and wish to
refine their skills.
By allowing me to learn more from the great and different caliber of people
that sail.
It's really up to me
small classes for aspiring racing skippers
More fleet captain
club is great.
have the club members come help finish my boat
This is probably a broken record by now: get another yacht for cruising like
Ms. Manhattan. I'd love to have something accessible in Newport in the summer
and the Caribbean in the winter.
BOATS THAT LEAVE AT 6:15/6:30 - EVEN THOUGH THE SAIL TIME WOULD BE
SHORTER--ALSO SHORTER SAILS ON THE WEEKENDS. I DID NOT GO A LOT BC IT WAS A
WHOLE DAY COMMITMENT. IF MEMBERS COULD BRING FRIENDS (IF THEY PAY) THAT WOULD BE
GREAT
Fleet Captain program worked fine for me
Allow me to become a skipper
Perhaps a New Members Reception would be helpful.
The Fleet Captain program has been great for me last season in allowing me to
sail twice a week as i wanted. Can't really imagine anything else to help me
sail more than having skipper privileges....
nothing
continue and further enhance the Saturday racing and racing education
program.
Do you know any other members who could go out at 1pm on a Friday?
If you
participated in the Fleet Captain Program, how could this be improved?
This is the main way into sailing at the club for new members and it might be
good to provide some especially easy way for them to sign up when we have our
membership and orientation meetings.
works great
Again, I'll take most responsibility here. Of course, the more skippers
around all the better for me.
Nothing, great program and the web site made it even better.
Distinguish between "learning" sails and "pleasure" sails?
Allow three fleet captain reservations for skippers on the books. People want
to go sailing: some skippers are willing to take them but cannot schedule boats.
Some incentives might get more skippers involved; shirts, bar credits, etc.
Sat racing has routinely eliminated sources of Fleet Captains. Sat- late
afternoon races cuts into prime time winds for cruising. Racing consistently
appears to be primary constituent of the club.
there was some confusing among new members whether they are charged the $5
that the skippers receive...still don't know
great the way it is
Did not...
As a crew I find it very well organized and I thank all the skipper who
accept to sail with us.
I think It works pretty well as it is have a not had any problems with it
I am not in favor of the $5 per sail thing.
one improvement would be to have more boats or less folks to a boat. another
would be more flexible time schedule - meaning more availability during the
business hours (weekly)
Program worked well for me as a crew member... probably depends on the
personalities.
More emphasis on the non-captain sailors being able to participate. I only
went once and it wasn't very satisfying. The fleet captain and his buddy did
all the sailing until it was time to go in.
no
works for me as a captain
I like the on-line reservation system. Good idea.
perhaps make being fleet capt mandatory for each skipper but on limited and
organized basis
Start earlier as days shorten, though this is difficult w/ many schedules.
Continue Saturday program. The program is really great.
have in past years. this year I raced, but would like to participate in fleet
captain sails. i heard the mentoring component of fcs was discontinued. I would
like to go on mentoring sails to get skills to get skipper privileges.
I did and I think it is excellent. If I were to improve it I would rate
skippers as teachers, competent pleasure cruisers, and race trainers
No thoughts, but the new online sign-up was a great help.
Better scheduling. It seems to have started later in the season, but I really
didn't get a chance to see how it ultimately worked out.
I find a lot of people asked to be mentored to become skippers. I think this
needs to be better organized. I try to help where I can but without structure I
it is tough for members to get the attention they need.
I realize that this is a volunteer program, but there was a time when the
skipper member did not make it and others when it seemed uncertain whether the
sail would happen up until the very last minute. If availability was more
certain, then the program would be more enjoyable.
Limit the number of people to four -- then all get a chance to fully rotate
through foredeck, pit, trim and helm. Many boats I was on had six or even seven
people.
Didn't participate but hope to more next year. I think it's a great program.
more boats
It seemed the Fleet Captain program really worked this year. When I could be
a fleet captain, it seemed that there were already enough captains.
THAT WAS GREAT- EVERY "TEACHER" WAS VERY HELPFUL
Maybe, if you could choose the skipper
The skipper is not always on time and sometimes I was unable to sail despite
having booked in advance
Thought it went well. Fleet captains were great.
The program has been great for me last season. Can't really imagine anything
better....
so far so good for me
It works for me, I just haven't done it enough.
If you
participated in the Racing Program, how could this be improved?
We need to avoid contact more consistently and have better observance of the
rules. Doing this without the sanction of protests is difficult. Maybe we should
consider a rule that requires any boats that make contact to retire
I found this program to be excellent. Perhaps some brief printed materials
would be of interest, but only as a supplement to the post race conversation.
Keep the Saturday races casual and encourage more people to attend.
as above
Saturday was great. Most of Saturday racers are fairly beginners, perhaps
discuss a couple of boats going out for boat handling sessions prior to race and
on Sundays. Rotating crew positions, so that everybody learns all positions.
Keep doing what you are doing!
Consider doing some shorter, W-L courses and get in 2 or 3 races per evening!
start the fall series earlier, there just isn't enough light to finish half
the races
Do shorter races (2-3 short races), instead of long ones, so that people
learn more boat handling techniques
Its great!
I didn't participate enough to have an opinion. I did notice that there was
only time for one or two races. Seemed like a lot of work for too short a time.
Excellent! Well done all Race Committee.
I think it was quite good this year. possibly the fall series could start a
bit earlier to compensate for the sorter days. also, how about some more around
gov. island races.
Starting fall season even 15 minutes earlier
yes
Start earlier so we can longer races. A and back isn't long enough.
post weekly race results on a bulletin in the clubhouse.
consider rotating skippers and or crew
Adjust starting times so races get underway earlier later in the season (due
to darkness)
The Tuesday series was well run. I would like to see better effort to taylor
the course to the conditions. In short courses on light wind days and longer
courses on windy days. One might consider always setting a short course and
running two+ laps.
Start earlier as days shorten, though this is difficult w/ many schedules.
Continue Saturday program. The program is really great.
liked it. feel that weather cancellations could be made sooner. i know that
no one wants to cancel a race prematurely and unnecessarily, but i also don't
want to get to the docks and wait an hour to find that we can't race. i'd rather
know sooner. also, i like the idea of Saturday format. i haven't participated
yet, but i like the pools of participants being split each week, allowing for
access to crew without being part of a permanent crew. also allowing people to
crew different positions. hope to do it this season.
I think we're doing a great job there.
As a novice racer, I enjoyed the Saturday series and appreciated Stephen
Yipp's efforts with it.
I am not involved, but would like to be.
More emphasis on the good sailors sharing and teaching with the up and coming
sailors.
Another set of races, more formal like Tuesday races, on Sunday.
naked combat racing
n/a, unfortunately.
A lot of networking is required in order to
Very good...
This will be my first year competing.
no and I do
set windward marks; long enough lines (some twings, cunninghams etc are too
short); need to standardize a bit, for instance with windward sheeting travelers
and traveler foot rests on all boats.
not sure here, but clearer understanding by skippers on club rules regarding
penalties. i.e. during wed night racing when the whole race was cancelled. this
should have been more thoroughly reviewed by all crew and skippers to make
everyone more aware of what happened and how to keep it from happening again.
How can
the club help you meet more of your fellow members?
Finish the Willy Wall and hold some events out there.
I think those who want to meet members have plenty of options no real need
for more.
Host parties at the new clubhouse
Structured social events are good for people who don't know many others e.g
the dinners last year were a good idea
?
Have more social functions geared towards cruising. As former sailing buddies
have moved away, harder to meet group to sail and socialize with.
there seem to be a lot of cliches
The Saturday racing program has improved the social aspect of the club in the
weekend. I hope that with the opening of the floating clubhouse, we will have
even more integration. Perhaps we can improve the overall crew/captain pole to
encourage more members to race in the weekend (e.g. Saturdays), there are plenty
of J24s are available
keep having lots of social gatherings and activities
I love the full moon parties but perhaps a little more hype would be good.
more social events
Sailing with different captains and different crews, racing
Not a Club responsibility... again if members wish to meet members they must
turn up and socialize on and off the water.
There are A LOT of opportunities
?
Finish the Willie Wall and have a party.
Have a social coordinator (like me) :-)
doing good job, but difficult
Educational seminars and more purely social events during the summer (Winter
has a lot--this is great!)
I met several in the short time I was a member. meeting other members is
mostly incumbant on participation of said members. A YC that provided My Gay
and beer to sailors has done its job.
nothing
for me , the racing has not been the most social. maybe organize a cruise for
members where skippers and crew are divided up on the docks and all the boats
cruise to a predetermined destination or route and then party back at the docks.
similar to how I understand the Saturday race format, but for cruising.
More small social events.
I think we're doing a great job there.
The club indirectly offers ways to meet other members - FC sails enabled me
to meet new people each time. I met people during the Sat. race series because I
didn't have to know someone to get on a boat and the crews were mixed each week.
I learned this by happenstance, so I think the the club could help new members
meet others by letting them know that these are ways to meet other members. I
did feel a little lost in the beginning of the season but tried to find ways to
meet people and sail.
Not sure. The social events are a good idea though.
Can you get me out of work earlier so I can attend more functions? I think
the club does enough, it is the members who need to make more effort sometimes.
The club could offer weekend sailing with instructors for people who are
already certified for a fee. The best way to meet members is on the water.
I like the winter dinners with members. Keep it up!
It's my problem of time
More alcohol
The club does a great job with numerous parties, etc.
THE CLUB HAS A LOT OF ACTIVITIES-I HAVE NOT MADE IT TO MANY..
Open the club house and have Thursday happy hour
Social activities are enough
We joined because of the corporate sailing races.
I think the best to meet people is sailing with them.
Laser racing
none extra needed here
It's just up to me to get out there more.
What do
you like most about the club?
racing
sailing
People seem pretty nice. Boats are in good condition
members, location
sailing
I enjoyed the fleet captain program and the Saturday races
I've found the fleet captain program very good and the skippers and other
crew have always been very friendly
The opportunity to learn and sail in a fairly stress free environment.
The diverse membership. Helpful, friendly staff. Convenience of boats in
Manhattan. Excellent value...
I would have to say skippering in the corporate regattas and Tuesday night
racing was the most enjoyable part of the season.
Focus on improving skills
location location location! the atmosphere is really great
informality the accessibility of the boats help in getting crews together
The facilities (using the J24s) are unique for Manhattan. Racing with the
J24s is fantastic, since everyone has an equal opportunity to win without having
to 'spend more money'. It is the most fair racing program I have ever seen,
perfect!
apart from sailing in one of the most amazing areas, it allowed me to meet
new people
the people and the sailing
Having the boats available to sail!!!
It's easy - especially since guests are welcomed. so if you don't a lot of
people in the club, you can always bring a friend.
Ability to sail on the weekend with few hassles
Friendly, real and enthusiastic 'sailing' people
great place to sail. nice members. things seem to work and the maintenance
group has been responsive and attentive.
The friends I have made and the good times on and off the water. It has also
help me feel connected with the city through advocacy of recreational sailing in
NYH
ability to race and sail
You've brought sailing back to the greatest city in the world.
sailing
the opportunity to sail in NY Harbor
sailing
People, flexibility, convenience.
no mahogany library or wire embroidered blazer
Racing program, convenience, easiness, chill factor
most people are pretty friendly
The wonderful opportunity that is created to meet a bunch of like minded
sailors in the midst of Manhattan.
Location, learning atmosphere, access to the boats
The sailing with good people
The freedom of sailing in the harbor.
Location, Location, Location! Don't move to NJ like Offshore.
Michael does an excellent job of managing the club.
The e-mail newsletters are great--keep them up.
Sailing (of course). Laura is a star at getting the weekend sailors on the
go.
very casual, not formal
The enthusiasm for the sport and the desire to share it with novices.
Most of the members I've met seem genuine. It's a very nice crowd. I also
really like the club's civic-mindedness -- especially the program targeted to
disadvantaged youth.
Meeting some old salts and new ones.
Too many things to list them all, but I like the location, the fall sunsets,
a lot of the friendly people, etc. I did the Saturday racing program once and
really had a blast. Unfortunately I was away most weekends. A few boats in Sag
Harbor would be cool!
The Saturday Racing Program
egalitarian
kind and flexible
Social aspects
Sailing and those Mt. Gay and tonics on the dock afterwards.
THE PEOPLE ARE NICE & IT IS USUALLY EASY TO GET A BOAT
Sailing ;)
Sailing
NA
The fellowship. Lot's of people with similar interest in sailing working
together.
The sailing
The list is very long.
low key atmosphere; friendly spirit
convenience and availability
The opportunity to sail and to sail with other people who love to sail.
What do
you dislike most about the club?
Once or twice a year, I would like to take a boat out for a double session.
unfriendly members.
no red wine at the bar and often no white wine at the bar
My one concern was signing up for the Fleet Captain program but the website
eliminated that concern
I don't find the clubhouse an easy place to come to as it doesn't feel very
friendly. Anything the staff in particular can do to proactively reach out to
people to make them feel welcome would be very helpful.
Skipper members who don't show on days when all boats were booked: a boat
then stays on the dock that another member could have taken out.
The sailing season is too short.
Financial resources are for racing.
Not much. I think the current programs are very impressive.
don't dislike anything
Nothing
the scheduling/structure - it's not always so convenient for me.
Not meeting as many people as I thought I would
Please consider the establishment of new membership category... for those
supporters who would wish to remain associated despite not permanent residents
in NY?
can't think of anything. possibly something could be done to slow down the
out going current when the wind is light.
Starting to cost a considerable amount
It's not democratic enough.
the snacks and the dues
Inability to do overnight cruising.
the lack of a mahogany library or wire embroidered blazers.
Lack of diversity - though I don't think this is due to any discrimination or
bias on the part of the club or membership.
dues are too high, beer is too expensive considering were a member sponsored
organization. c'mon it's as expensive as a bar! should be half that price.
Not feeling connected enough to the club and sailing opportunities.
cliques
Winter. And the trash in the water.
Encourage people to be more friendly and welcoming; the older members
especially. When you show up at the club, people you have sailed with before
sometimes ignore you or act like they don't even know you. Where are the
friendly New Yorkers?
As a skipper I don't think I should have to pay for my girlfriend to come
sailing with me. If we were married it would be free. I nearly always take
club members out with me (over 90% of the time). Please don't squeeze me for
$5 per sail just because I am not married.
Everything is scheduled during the week, which does not work for the early
risers too well.
I miss Anchor Steam in Bottles.
nothing to dislike
It is so much fun that it makes the rest of my life seem boring.
THE 6 START TIME DURING THE WEEK-6:15 WOULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE & THE 3-4
HOURS ON SATURDAY. I THINK THIS ALL DEPENDS ON THE CAPTAIN THOUGH..?
nothing
Did not find anything I disliked so far.
I have no dislikes - is that possible?
The bar might offer full bodied Belgian ale or good British beer like Bass
Ale
Having to pay to use the nicer life jackets for guests.
Do you
feel the club is better or worse now than it was a year ago and why?
Better
just as good.
better; switching from stick to carrot on the maintenance activities is an
improvement, membership increase is a good thing
Can't say, I have not been a member that long.
Seems like there have been some good initiatives introduced such as dinners,
and I think the fleet captain program was also well run.
Getting better. Saturday racing great for new members/racers who aren't part
of the Tuesday/Wed. pre-formed groups.
Better. 1) The Teen Sailing program took place during weekdays so did not
take boats from weekend sailing. 2) New members, including a few informal
'social organizers', meant club members mixed more. 3) Saturday eve racing a
hit.
Significantly better. More and better events, more new members, better
racing, better ambience.
I was disappointed enough with the lack of available fleet captains 2 years
ago to not sail at all in 2004.
better
Much better, due to the introduction of the Saturday racing program
Cannot say as I joined this summer
I think it is better this year there was more going on
I love the club
haven't been around long enough to comment
Not qualified to comment. I think it is an excellent club and camaraderie
superb.
better.
Always better
better because of the Saturday racing program
Better. The club finished rebuilding and started growing again.
same
better
Same - don't feel it has changed.
same, but could be better if we finish the clubhouse and people a patronize
it.
Better. Better newsletters and "This Week In Sailing" is informative and
helpful.
A little better. The new clubhouse, Saturday racing, dining with members, are
all good.
Better. More boats available
I have been a member for only one season.
Better. I think the new scheduling for the fleet program is going to get
better.
On a par. Due to work I did not get to socialize as much over the last year,
but I will be trying harder next year.
better due to the higher level of communication and the influx of very nice
and talented skippers.
I like that the club is getting more diversity in its membership which is
cool. More women which is great. More artsy people too.
better, more opportunities to sail and race with the racing program.
better -- more activities
The club is better off, but we miss the Irish instructors
Better, especially with the new clubhouse.
Same, but I know more members now
Can't comment
Better - the future is looking very bright
gets better every year
cannot really judge here
I'm not sure I see a difference...
How do
you feel about our current fleet of boats?
No complaints.
just as good.
Good shape
like the J's but feel that their condition is uneven (rigging and lines on
some boats wasn't that great last year)
They work for me
no particular comments
Fine
Fine.
Getting a bit long in the tooth, but still going strong. New sails are always
desirable.
Fine
good
The boats are a bit old, but they work fine. I hope we can get some new sails
for this new season. Perhaps Heineken can assist with the sponsoring. Please ask
Dennis Peek (dpeek@heinekenusa.com)
great
I think they are great and in pretty good condition
They are just fine
good - small and uncomfortable with more than 4 people on it - even at that
it's not always comfortable. From a safety perspective, excellent.
I guess there could be more....
Ideal crew capacity for membership, according to the crew : captain ratio.
Smaller race boats would not encourage greater membership participation, but
increase potential for race 'clique'.
considering the use they get and their age, they are doing well for their
age. for the most part the motors are fine, except, sometimes they are hard to
start of hard to get into the up position and it happens only at a bad moment.
Good as can be expected. They meet my needs
sails are too old
Some of them are very tired. They won't last forever.
seem to be kept in basically good working order
could be better some newer boats would be great
Good, J/24s are nice boats.
love the J24 - anything smaller might actually fit under the Staten Island
ferry. anything larger would be fun but be too expensive to outfit
They're getting worn, but they hold up pretty damn good. Their are many that
are in need of simple repairs such as new stopper cleats for outhaul that could
really help.
good. i thought maintenance was pretty on top of things.
Great!
I would very much enjoy a larger cruiser for all day out on the ocean sailing
and training sails down to Chesapeake bay or Martha's Vinyard.
Very good
I'm fond of them - they're always ready for a sail.
Good. I like the new sails.
no opinion
I love J24s. However, I don't understand the club's logic of having
mainsails without reef points.
In a word, GOOD!
I wish there was some way to get the laser program going again.
A few more would be nice. More importantly 3-5 skiff boats would be great.
great
More variety in shapes and sizes
J-24s seem ideal for New York harbor. Small enough to be exciting, big
enough to be safe.
THEY ARE FINE
Could there be a catamaran
OK
Very nice, but have a suspicion we could use something smaller for brushing
up on certain skills, but then what do I know?
Looks great to me!
May be we should try to see how to get a few bigger boats? But I am sure you
guys already thought about that....
The boats are fine for our purpose and they are well maintained.
some inequities but this gets sorted out
after sailing for the year, i think that consistency among all the boats
needs to be worked out a bit more. Sail and tuning seemed inconsistent from boat
to boat.
a specific problem we had: lifelines on boat #1 were lose and potentially
dangerous all year and never addressed.
They're fine.
What else
is on your mind?
thanks for providing a great service in New York city.
Enjoyed my first year with the club and I look forward to next year and the
Willy Wall.
I think that the way this site is indexed, it could be an invasion of
privacy. For example, if you google a members name who is on the Caribbean
regatta, you can find out who he goes on vacation with, how much he pays, etc,
etc., same for Annual Diner. I would check and see if it is possible to only
have the public info pages searchable.
Besides that, I think the club is great!
Consider an online email/phone directory for those who agree to be listed.
Would help communication, scheduling sails/notifying others if folks can't make
it.
I would love to be able to sail or race a dinghy in the harbor. What will
become of the club Lasers?
Assignments to fleet captain boats have been assigned on first come first
served rather than on reservation basis (although latter existed). This has
occurred last 2 years. Also very unfortunate that we can no longer bring guests
on Fleet Captain.
It would be great if there were dinghy sailors available. Especially for
those of us who have not made the jump to skippering but want to sail ourselves
not just have a short turn at the helm which most outing are for beginners.
North Cove might not be the best area for this but perhaps the Willy Wall and
the Ellis Island cove may be safer?
Can we start the season in April instead of May?
Thanks again for a great sailing season.
I think the club should sponsor trips for key west race week, Miami sorc and
Antigua race week.
I think I have lost it somewhere on the way to the BVI
thank you
MSC is pretty fabulous
International/Out of State Membership. Perhaps small nominal annual fee to
cover the period when 'out of state' and pro-rata when in state and using the
Club??
looking forward to warmer weather. more seriously, I think a problem has
been short first legs and especially with down wind starts with too many boats
piling up attempting to round, especially with a strong outgoing current with
boats all flying chutes going to the down wind mark and then rounding up 180
degrees back to the next mark.
Thanks
good job mike!
As a clubhouse member, I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to have my
birthday party on the William Wall. Maybe this year?
offer dock boxes or nearby storage lockers to stow our gear.
overnights on the 105 would be fun. maybe participating in some local
distance races. I would love to see [read:crew for] the MYC in Block Island or
even Figawi or Vineyard Race. The 105 could do well and between the membership
I am sure we coulf put crew up in houses in these various locales.
I think the club is excellent and does a great job all around - staff is
excellent and very friendly. I'd like to single out Stephen Yip for his awesome
stewardship of the SAT racing program - it was a really great thing he did and
he deserves a lot of recognition for it. Keep up the good work.
i subscribed to clubhouse bond after 9/11 in a spirit of helping lower
Manhattan and i know that the terms of the bond were different then then they
are now. i don't remember a 5 year extension clause and it used to say if we
didn't get 100 subscribers we'd cancel it and return the $ to the subscribers. i
gave the money in the spirit of charity, but i don't like that the agreement was
altered after i subscribed. seems sneaky. i do like the gold membership-card,
though.
We still do not want to be captains and I know that others feel this way. The
educational programs and the dinners are great ideas but mostly, we want to find
more captains who will want to have us aboard. We are friendly and just happy to
be there. Thanks!
Need to get on the water
I can't wait to see the harbor from the Willy Wall!
Keep up the good work!
A number of bicycles were stolen from the club (mine included). While I
believe this is an individual responsibility anything the club can do to help
would be appreciated.
The Caribbean!!!!1
I would really like to see the Willie Wall clubhouse become a place where
people go and hang out and have a beer and watch the sun set and stuff. I know
you're working on it. Getting that launch running regularly is going to be key.
Thanks for the hard work. Especially Stephen Yip for running the Saturday
racing program and always being there to answer questions.
I appreciate the efforts of the relatively few that make it all happen
What mind.
Finish the Willy Wall
I'm coming to the Blue Water Society dinner this year come hell or high
water. I'm a big fan of the MSC and our fearless leader. What is the latest on
Imperatore?
A PAY PER SAIL FOR FRIENDS WOULD BE GREAT (IF ROOM).
Give Sonya an award for her networking effort.
Nothing yet! Looking forward to winning some races on Tuesday night in the
summer!
I am in the learning process. So anything that goes toward more learning will
be appreciated from me.
Also, I hope to make it to skipper sometime. Not this year, but may be next or
the other one. I'd appreciate more info and may be more help to learn the
skills. May be a formal training program within the club.
I need to figure out the time and place to build the bar top. We need to
figure out how to bring back the Laser racing.
tonight's dinner and getting more exercise
are we going to using the club house this year?
I LOVE the opportunity that the club gives me to sail.
